I am a Professor of Machine Learning and Computer Vision at the University of Edinburgh, with extensive experience in AI research and academic leadership. See the site of my VIOS team and the site of CHAI: the centre I direct on Causal AI.
My research focuses on machine learning, causal AI, and multimodal systems, particularly in domains where robustness, interpretability, and evidence matter. I hold a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair.
Alongside academia, I undertake independent advisory and educational work, including technical briefings and expert discussions related to AI research and its implications.
I also hold an external role with the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
All advisory work described here is undertaken in a personal and independent capacity, and is separate from any public or institutional roles.
